1/4 c heaping, molasses
1 lg egg
2 tsp baking soda
2 1/4 c all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt.

Shortening and sugar creamed together.
1.Cream shortening and sugar.

Molasses added to the bowl.
2.Add molasses; blend well.

Adding an egg to the batter.
3.Add egg and beat until smooth.

Sifting flour, soda, salt, and spices.
4.Sift together flour, soda, salt, and spices.

Adding dry to wet ingredients.
5.Mix together with wet ingredients.

Rolling dough into a ball.
6.Form into 1″ balls.

Rolling ball in sugar.
7.Roll in sugar.

Pressing down cookies.
8.Flatten slightly with the bottom of a juice glass dipped in sugar. Place 2″ apart on well greased cookie sheet.
