It’s easy to see why this 7 Layer Dip recipe gets a five star rating all over social media! Packed with layers of refried beans, creamy guacamole, and sharp cheddar cheese, this Seven Layer Dip is a perfect blend of textures and flavors.
Our Seven Layer Dip recipe requires no cooking or baking. If you can mix, spread, and sprinkle, you can quickly assemble this taco-seasoned appetizer and have it ready when guests arrive.
This taco dip begins with a bottom layer of beans (it’s the thickest, so it won’t buckle beneath the other layers). It is topped with spoonfuls of guacamole, seasoned sour cream, salsa, shredded lettuce, cheese, black olives, and tomatoes and finished with sliced green onions. Serve it with tortilla chips for scooping instead of stuffing it all into taco shells!
This dip is the perfect party food to feed a large crowd. You can’t go wrong with a layered dip recipe like this when it can be customized with your fans’ favorite fillings! Great for game day, Cinco de mayo , potlucks, or family gatherings.
7 Layer Dip Ingredients
-
- Refried beans: I used a classic Old El Paso can of refried beans but feel free to use your favorite brand or even use a homemade refried beans recipe if you have one.
- Water
- Guacamole: You can use your favorite store-bought brand, make homemade guacamole from scratch, or simply mash avocado with some lime juice.
- Sour cream: You can substitute plain Greek yogurt for the sour cream. It will taste similar but not exactly the same.
- Taco seasoning: You can use a packet of store-bought seasoning or try my homemade taco seasoning.
- Chunky salsa: Choose your favorite store-bought bottle or make your own Salsa. Make sure to drain it through a mesh strainer before spreading!
- Lettuce: Finely shredded iceberg lettuce is traditional but leaf or romaine lettuce will work too.
- Fiesta blend cheese: You can use a Mexican blend cheese or a combination of cheeses if you don’t want to get a pre-blended bag. A few cheeses that go well in this dip are shredded cheddar cheese, mozzarella, Colby Jack, and Monterey. You can also use a pepper jack cheese for a bit more spice.
- Black olives (I used Mario brand), well-drained
- Roma tomatoes: You can substitute cherry tomatoes or your favorite fresh tomatoes and chop them. Since tomatoes are juicy, you may want to pat them dry with a paper towel.
- Green onions
