Ingredient Notes:
Mayonnaise – Use real mayo and not Miracle Whip here. We like Kraft, but Duke’s is tasty too.
Ketchup – I’m a Heinz girl through and through, but use what you have.
Mustard – This won’t make the sauce taste mustard-y, but it does help balance the flavors.
White Vinegar – This will add a little bit of a tangy component to the sauce that brings it all together. You can use dill pickle juice instead if you prefer that flavor. And pickle relish would give it a Thousand Island vibe.
Seasoning – Chili powder for a little kick (it’s not spicy) and garlic powder or salt, depending on what you keep on hand.
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Tips & Swaps You Might Need:
Pickles: Love thousand island? Add some minced dill pickles or pickle relish to the sauce!
Vinegar: We use white vinegar here, but swap it out for ACV or dill pickle juice if you prefer.
Spice: The chili powder doesn’t make this spicy, but you can stir in some cayenne for a kick!
Storage: We keep this in a mason jar and store in the fridge for around a week.
How to Make Smash Burger Sauce:
Add all of the ingredients to a mixing bowl or large mason jar.
Whisk until combined. Taste and add additional salt or vinegar to suit your tastes.
Helpful Tip!
Storage & Freezing:
You can keep this sauce stored in a mason jar or airtight container in your refrigerator for up to a week! I would not recommend freezing this sauce.
