Classic Apple Pie


Directions :
Preheat Oven and Prepare Pie Plate:
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and spray your 9-inch pie plate with cooking spray.
Prepare Apples:
Peel and thinly slice apples and place them in a large mixing bowl. An apple peeler and slicer can make this step quick and easy.
Mix Sugar and Spices:
In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and flour. Pour this mixture over the apples. Stir with a wooden spoon until the apples are evenly coated.
Assemble Pie:
Place one pie crust in the pie plate. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust, filling it generously, and even mounding it up in the center if necessary.
Add Top Crust:
Top the apples with the second pie crust. For a decorative touch, consider a lattice top, but make sure to cut slits in the top crust for ventilation. Press the edges of the top and bottom crust together to seal the pie.
Apply Egg Wash and Sugar:
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to make an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the top crust. Sprinkle the remaining tablespoon of sugar over the top.
